The Lutheran Church is the congregation of saints around the world who gather together to hear the Word preached according to the plain word of Scripture and receive the Sacraments rightly administered as ordained by God. We are a Bible-believing Church that understands the Scriptures to be the divinely inspired and inerrant Word of God (2 Ti 3:16). Scripture provides the only sure ground upon which we can base our faith. We also believe that God has given His sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper for the building up of His Church and as a means of grace to forgive our sins (cf Mt 20:28 and 1 Pt 3:21). Here in this Church, the new, regenerate man is formed and taught to live in purity and righteousness before God by the Holy Spirit through Scripture (Titus 2). Yet, we will never be entirely free from sin in this life, so we must always pray to God for grace and forgiveness.

We do not teach that the Lutheran Church was founded in 1517 by Martin Luther. Rather, we believe that the true Church has existed throughout all of history, although it has often been oppressed by false teachings in every age. Yet, Jesus promises us that the gates of hell shall not overcome His Church (Mt 16:18). Thus, the Reformation was not the forming of a new Church, but the renewal and purification of the old Church from false doctrines and practices that had crept in slowly over time.

The public teachings of our Church are drawn from Scripture and are explained in the Book of Concord. You can find more information about our teachings from the resources on our links page.
