Weekly Bulletin - October 13, 2024

PORTALS OF PRAYER - The 4th quarter booklet (October-December) is now available in the narthex on the periodical rack. Large print copies are also available. Be sure to take one for yourself and one for a friend.

OFFICE HOURS - Pastor Mundorf will be in his office from 10:00am-2:00pm, Monday-Thursday. Come by say hi, sit and have a chat (baring an appointment or meeting). If you need to see him and want to make sure he’ll be available, call the church office, 989-753-7281.

ALTAR FLOWERS - We the congregation and flower committee would like to thank Melissa and Princess Zahariev for their donation of 2 more mums.

PASTOR APPRECIATION POTLUCK - TODAY, Sunday October 13th is Pastor Appreciation Day and we will be holding a potluck dinner following the church service. 

PLEASE DONATE CANDY FOR TRUNK OR TREAT - Between now and October 27 we need to accumulate around 10,000 pieces of candy for Trunk or Treat.  Carrollton Eagles have already contributed close to 80 pieces. If a member applies for Thrivent Action Team funds, that will be a big help. The rest will come from our generous members. Also mark Sunday, October 27th, 2-4 pm, on your calendar to help with this community event. 

HELP NEEDED FOR MONDAY SCHOOL - In order to keep offering Monday School at the Rescue Mission, we need more than Kim Mays on the team. Monday School is offered on the first Monday of each month from 6:15 -7 pm for children residing at the Mission, with a small number attending these sessions. This year's sessions will focus on a Bible verse, prayers, a brief discussion, and coloring a related picture while visiting with the children. Please let Kim know if you are able to help. Without helpers we will have to discontinue this outreach. 

THANK YOU, MESSIAH - Your donations of deposit bottles and cans in August assist Tom Pol in covering expenses for scouting activities. We make a special push for your support in August, but your donations are welcome throughout the year.

THANK YOU CARROLLTON EAGLES - A large box filled with bags of candy were donated to Messiah for our “Trunk or Treat”. We are grateful for their generosity.

ANNUAL GARDEN SWAP, SEPTEMBER 15-October 15 - Messiah’s gardeners are willing to share their perennials and ground covers with those of you who need to expand your garden. The best time to thin and transplant these is through October, so schedule a time to thin perennials with one of the members making this offer. Lenore Lemanski, Dan Brady, Terri Nelson. John Burns, or Dolly Dankert. Here’s to great gardens in 2025! 

SEPTEMBER COLLECTION FOR THE RESCUE MISSION - This month we are collecting personal hygiene items for the residents at the Mission: body wash, body lotion, shampoo, deodorant, razors, shave cream, aftershave,  toothpaste, etc.  Please be generous as the need is great.  Look for the collection box n the narthex. 

FALL RUMMAGE SALE - We’re closing in on our Fall Rummage Sale date of November 9th, beginning at 9:00am We are still in need of your help. With kiddos back in school it’s time to go through that unwanted stuff taking up needed space in your house and consider donating it to Messiah’s rummage sale. Please make sure any clothing is clean (no yellow neck lines, missing buttons, tears or holes, no pet hair or odors and up-to-date styles). A few of the more popular items are toys, books, DVD’s and puzzles. So if you come across some of these items during your clean-up bring them to the church. Place you gently used items in the hallway by the first classroom on the left. The last date to donate will be October 25th. Large items will be accepted the week of November 3rd. FRUIT SALE - The Valley Lutheran Booster Club’s 2024 Fruit Sale Fundraiser, begins October 3 and runs through November 8, 2024. Fruit is passed out Saturday, December 7th at Valley from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 20lb. boxes are $39, 40lb. boxes are $51, 10lb. Carton of Florida Mandarins are $35, and a mixed carton is $39. SEEKING APPLICANTS - VLHS is seeking applicants to fill the following positions:  Part-time Food Service Assistant, Part-time Business Office Assistant and Part-time Development Associate. While each part-time position could be filled with different individuals, The Business Office Assistant and Development Associate could be combined to create a single full-time position by the right candidate. PRAYER SHAWL CIRCLE - Come join us at St Peter Lutheran Church for Prayer Shawl Circle. Together we will create shawls that offer comfort and love to those in need, whether they are facing illness, loss, or any life challenges, We will pray through the Psalms as we work on the shawl. Meeting Weekly on Mondays at 1pm -2:30pm in classroom 2. Yarn, materials and patterns will be provided or bring your own. For more details contact Deaconess Shirley at 989-642-8188.

GERMAN WORSHIP SERVICE - OCT 13TH - On Sunday, October 13th, St. Loren’z monthly German worship service will be held at 11:00am in the Church, 1030 W. Tuscola Rd., Frankenmuth. Our Lord’s Prayer Sermon Series, “A Prayer for All Season,” nears its conclusion focusing on  The Seventh Petition—”sondern erlöse uns von dem Bösen” (but deliver us from evil). The next German worship service will be on Nov. 10th.

CHICKEN BBQ TAKEOUT DINNER - On Sunday, October 13 from 11:30 - 1:00 a drive-thru take-out dinner will be served at Immanuel Lutheran Church-Frankentrost (8220 E. Holland Road).  Menu includes ½ grilled chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, cole slaw and cupcake. Cost of the meal is $14.00 and is sponsored by Immanuel Men’s Club. 

PANTHER PROWL 5k WALK & RUN - Registration is now open for the fourth-annual Peace Panther Prowl 5K Walk & Run at 10am on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Imerman Park, 3495 Midland Road in Saginaw. Join us for this fun, all-ages trail walk or run — or prowl, if you must — a fundraiser for the Peace Lutheran School Athletics Department. THE RETURN OF THE MID-MICHIGAN LUTHERAN CONFESSIONS STUDY - It’s back! This study met for many years but has been on break for the last couple of years. Grace Lutheran Church (303 Ruth Street, Auburn) will be hosting it on the third Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., starting October 19. The Formula of Concord will be the focus! Pastor Schian along with several other area pastors will help facilitate the discussion. Both pastors and laypeople are welcome to attend. BBQ CHICKEN DINNER - Trinity-St. James Lutheran Church, 119 E. Munger Rd. is hosting their annual BBQ Chicken Dinner on Sunday, October 20 from 11am-2pm (or until sold out). Donation:  $15.00 and kids meals (5 & under) $5.00. Eat in or take out.

PEACE TRUNK OR TREAT - Get those Halloween costumes and candy bags ready! Peace is excited to announce our 4th Annual Trunk or Treat at 6pm Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Peace School (Lawndale Campus) parking lot and inside the school! Trunk-or-Treating involves parents and the church congregation and groups individually decorating their car trunks with Halloween decor and passing out candy as kids stroll from car to car. ANY AND ALL KIDS – SIMPLY COME HAVE FUN! Walk from car to car trick-or-treating while dressed in your favorite Halloween costume. Any and all children from throughout our community are welcome. HOLIDAY BAZAAR - St. Mark Lutheran Church and Preschool, 2565 N. Miller Rd., welcomes you to visit their Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 2 from 8:30am-2:30pm. Visit the many crafters, the large bake sale and join us for lunch.

DEER WIDOWS CRAFT SHOW - This craft show will be held here at Messiah Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 16 from 10am-3pm. This craft show is sponsored by Las Amiga’s and all proceeds will go to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Food Pantry. Vendors are encouraged to contact Anita or Michelle if interested in renting a table. $20 rental fee includes 1 table and 2 chairs.

SERVIVING THE HOLIDAYS - Divorced? Separated? Know someone who is? When a marriage ends, the holiday season can be especially painful. We are hosting a “Surviving the Holidays” seminar which helps participants face challenges and discover: • How to deal with emotions • Helpful tips to surviving social events • Ways to help children through the holidays • Hope for the future. GRIEFSHARE - St Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock is hosting GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays is a helpful, encouraging seminar for people facing the holidays after a loved one’s death. The seminar will be held on November 17th from 12:30 to 2:30 pm in the church conference room. There is no cost. Topics to be discussed include dealing with hard-hitting emotions, what to do about traditions, how to survive social events, and where to find comfort and strength.
